Pregnancy is a time for a woman when she is almost clueless about what is happening. She doesn’t know what to expect and if the things she already know are correct or not. While most some find it difficult to decide what are the correct set of rights and wrongs, some easily try every thing which comes their way. Its always advised that a woman should consult a doctor before experimenting or following any advise. But there are a certain actions which a pregnant woman should always do. Today SheNeeds is bringing to you a To-Do list for the firsts trimester of your pregnancy. After all you and your baby need the best care.

  • Make an appointment with your doctor. The doctor will examine you and will ask you about your history or any previous pregnancy and complications related to it. Depending upon your health, your doctor can advise you to follow some instructions like no travel, bed rest, or no sex. You will also e given a chart of multi-vitamins which you have to take religiously for the coming year.
  • The first and the foremost thing you should do when you get pregnant is to set a schedule for your pre natal vitamins. Your body needs folic acid, iron, calcium and other vitamins and minerals to give the fetus proper nutrition for it’s growth.  Keep all the pre natal vitamins which your doctor has advised in a bag and set an alarm.
  • See if your health insurance covers up your pregnancy. If yes then keep the policy handy because you won’t be able to search for it later. If not, then start saving a little extra for delivery.
  • If you smoke or drink then you need to quit right away. These activities can raise the odds of low birth weight, miscarriage, placental problems, and preterm birth. They also increase your child’s risk of problems with learning, speech, attention span, language, and hyperactivity. It’s better to quit now.
  • Cut down on caffeine. Few pregnancy complications are assosiated with the excess use of caffeine during pregnancy. It’s better that you limit your intake to just 200mg per day.
  • Eat Healthy. make sure that all the food you eat is pregnancy safe. Avoid all the food colors, artificial flavoring and MSG which is mainly used in Chinese food items. Eat fresh veggies and avoid eating stale food. It can give you a few digestive issues which may be some extra dose of discomfort for you in this stage.
  • NEVER EAT:  Undercooked meat, anything that contains raw eggs, unpasteurized soft cheeses, sushi made with raw fish, raw sprouts. raw oysters and other fish that’s high in mercury.
  • Regulate Your Sleep Pattern. Since your body is 24*7 at work, it demands some extra rest during the first trimester.  It’s very natural for you to feel tired and exhausted all the time. Take at least 8-10 hours of sleep to avoid weakness.
  • Never Assume. Most women ignore the signs of a few issues which turn out to be major problems in the later stages. If you see anything unusual, please consult your doctor. It may be a discharge or a foul smell, or a sudden back ache or cramping in the stomach or anything else. There are countless symptoms which are common and there are countless ones which need investigation. Consult the doctor.
  • Follow your baby’s development. There are numerous things available on the internet which can keep you updated on the progress of your fetus.
  • Start Drinking at least 10 glasses of water everyday. The amniotic fluid of your baby depends on your intake of water to a great extent. So make sure you drink lots of water.
  • Always carry something to eat. You don’t know when your tummy will ask for something yummy to eat, so be prepared. Even if you feel full, keep a snack ready for your next hunger pang.
  • Try Breathing exercises or meditation for relaxing. It helps in proper circulation of blood all throughout the body. You can start with Yoga as well but make sure that you learn from a trained professional and all your asanas should be pregnancy friendly.
  • Walk everyday. 45-45 minutes of walking is always recommended by the doctors. It helps in regulating your stress hormones. It helps in moving the pelvic muscles so that you don’t cramp that much in the uterus.
  • Start Making a Pregnancy Book.  These day will not come back again. Start taking pictures of your growing belly. Trust me you will feel like thanking me later.
