The entire nation had their eyes glued to Kareena Kapoor Khan when she declared her pregnancy. She became a rockstar mommy who used to flaunt her double chin and her baby bump both at the same time. However, she had decided that her weight gain would stop the day she would enter the hospital.

The people who have been following her closely must have noticed that she has lost a tremendous amount of weight in just 8 months. She gained 18 kilos in her pregnancy and she has managed to loose it all. Her postpartum weight loss journey is becoming an inspiration for many women all around the country.

Today we are bringing to you her routines so that you too can loose those extra pounds and be as fit as the begum herself.

Her Post Pregnancy Diet

During her pregnancy, Kareena was on a ‘I can eat everything’ diet. She gobbled down calories like every other mother to be. “I wanted to do it the conventional way, the right way. So I ate it all, but in the right quantities,” she said, mentioning how her diet of ghee-laden parathas consequently led to a weight gain of 18 kilos.

Now aside from keeping a strict calorie count, she pays special attention to her calcium levels. “In one pregnancy, you lose five years of calcium in the body,” said Kareena, explaining why she has been religiously drinking a tall glass of milk every night since she gave birth.

According to her dietitian, Rujuta Diwekar, the target for Kareena has always been to take it a step at a time and not to rush through the process of weight loss. “Because we don’t want to go one step forward and two steps back, which is what happens when you do a crash or extreme diet,” Rujuta said.

“My aim is not just to lose the weight I had put on. I don’t want to do it overnight. It may take long, but I want to feel light, happy and energetic throughout the process. And that is important,” Kapoor Khan said.

  • So, the key is to eat healthy. Eat many portions of food in a day and don’t over load yourself with two major meals.
  • Take care of your vitamin and mineral count as they will determine how healthy you are.
  •  Take notice of the calories you need and the calories you are eating every day. Don’t over eat.
  • Give your body a little less calories than it needs because then only it will turn to fat and burn it.


Kareena has been a regular to the gym right from the day her doctor allowed her to go for exercises. She has been doing Pilates, high intensity interval training, weight training and what not.  Walks and Yoga are her daily practices.
