Is Akshay Kumar’s Toilet- Ek Prem Katha Really Going To Inspire People To Make Toilets?

When on one hand our honored Prime Minister had launched campaigns like ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’, how much impact do you think this movie will have on it’s audience? In rural India, building toilets are still a necessity and almost all the homes miss out on making toilets. Why is it that they prefer to defecate in open and create millions of health hazards?

Well, they are set in their own ways and it’s hard for them to feel content without getting kissed by the grass on their butts.

Just kidding!! Almost all of rural India has a stubborn mentality when it comes to breaking the traditions. Defecating in the open is not exactly a tradition but people have been practicing it for many years now and they believe that it is the only hygienic way to do it. The shit is anyways very far away from their home.

Many of them blame it on vaastu and say that our ancient Indian architecture never permitted us to make toilets in the house. They are right when they say so but they forget that vaastu never asked them not to make a toilet as well. The toilets can be made outside the home too. At least the health of the people would not be put to a risk.

Well, coming back to the movie, Akshay Kumar really hopes that his movie inspires the people of India to construct toilets in or outside their homes. In a tweet to praise Akshay Kumar, PM Narendra Modi wrote, “Good effort to further the message of cleanliness. 125 crore Indians have to continue working together to create a Swachh Bharat”

After the very much mocked toilet promotion series of Vidya Balan (Jaha Soch Waha Sauchalaya), this effort seems to have potential. After the release of the trailer, a fan made a toilet for his friend and thanked Akshay Kumar for the inspiration. Have a look:

Toilet Ek Prem Katha is an attempt by Shree Narayan Singh to throw light on the need of a toilet in every household. The trailer also speaks volumes about the mindset of people and why half of the citizens feel like defecating in the open. This is their way to make a change and we truely appreciate it.

  1. Glad that the true meaning of Swachch Bharat is finally sinking in! Bollywood movies have always been an inspiration for the people residing in villages. Hope this changes the mindset of the people. I have seen old houses in the city of Bangalore having a common toilet for the tenants. Drilling the sense of hygiene and sanitation is crucial in the 21st century!

Do stop by to see what I have to say about the movie when free! Here is the link –
